Snowflake obsidian cabochons are cut from a type of volcanic glass that is created when molten lava cools rapidly. The visible snowflake patterns are caused in snowflake obsidian when small clusters of other minerals form white crystals in the volcanic glass. Snowflake obsidian is usually a deep black color but sometimes can be more of a deep grey.
